i would add two things for the effective readability of the blog
6. Formatting
Use breaks, spacing, paragraphs, colors, font sizes, weights (bold vs normal), and italics. Too many times, I see posts full of content in ONE paragraph. You've got to give the readers' eyes a break as they read.
7. Use pictures and video sparingly.
Of course this is an offshoot of your #3. I think a post should have some illustration. It doesn't need a lot. But, it helps if people can see an image and relate for more effectively.
8. Colors (2 part lol)
a. Some people have colors that they love. But, they don't understand that those colors don't come off nice from a light emitting screen as opposed to light reflecting clothing. Strong contrasting colors are difficult on the eyes and cause fatigue quickly.
b. Too many crazy colors is just tacky and annoying.
All of these things really have to do with giving the reader's eyes a break as they read so they can spend more time on your page. There's nothing worse than seeing a page whose colors give me a headache. Or, the length of the post is one monolithic paragraph. You see something like that and you don't even want to bother. And, some pictorial posts are good. But if your blog posts consist of videos and pictures and then one or two sentences, you're probably just regurgitating some shit you saw elsewhere.
